Ships Lists
A note from Lucille: I now propose to make this information available to the general public. Geoff and I are working together to produce a number of lists of sea crossings. They will be arranged by port of departure from Scotland. The first of these lists appears below. If you think that you would be interested in any particular areas or have any comments I would be delighted to hear from you. You can contact me at lucille@scotstocanada.com. List of vessels which left Tobermory for Canada, 1803-1853. (Also includes sailings from Skye.) The list below gives details of early ship crossings from Tobermory in the Isle of Mull to ports in Canada. Because of its good harbour and central location Tobermory acted as a major collecting point for emigrant ship sailings from the Inner Hebridean Islands. As a result the emigrants who travelled on these ships did not necessarily originate from Mull and may have come from nearby Islands like Tyree and Coll or from places along the mainland coast. Some emigrant sailings also took place from Skye and they are included. 1803 Month Vessel Master Departure Destination No. Passengers n/k Bess n/k Tobermory PEI 80 06 Dykes Thompson, Tobermory PEI 200 of Maryport John The passengers were on their way to found the Selkirk settlement at Belfast.
