Fares were: steerage 52s, under 14, 26s, below 7, 17s 4d. Second cabin fares were: 60s - under 14, 30s, below 7, 20s. First cabin fares were 80s - under 14, 40s, below 7, 26s 8d. The were agents in Inverness, Cromarty, Dingwall, Evanton, Tain, Nairn, Forres, Kingussie and Fort William. 05 Deveron Maclean Lochinver Pictou 140 of Glasgow from Greenock 07 British King Brown, A. Cromarty Pictou & Quebec 157 of Dundee One of three vessels (Osprey & Quebec Packet); sent out by Messrs Sutherland & MacLennan. All landed in good health; with the exception of twenty all passengers were going to Upper Canada to settle in London district. Brought capital of £7000 to £8000; farmers & farm labourers; ten passengers went to PEI; two families went to Sherbrooke. 07 Quebec Stephen Cromarty Quebec 60 Packet of Aberdeen One of three vessels (British King & Osprey); sent out by Messrs Sutherland & MacLennen. Total of four hundred and three people sailed on these vessels of whom two hundred and forty eight were from Caithness. Some passengers had been on board for 12 - 13 weeks. The delay had been caused by many port calls; disease broke out before arrival in Pictou; people moved to temporary accommodation on beaches; were in quarantine for 3 months; forty three needed help from Emigration Agent to get to Montreal; thirty six obtained help from Societies and other funds. One of the customs officials at Pictou commented that the Captain of the Ellen 'acted indeed onto one and all of them the passengers more like the head of a family than a Shipmaster. No praise that they can bestow on him can be too great'. The vessel had been chartered by the Duke of Sutherland. A head tax was levied on all passengers.
